Myeloma group will meet at home of CUFC

8 July 2013

The next meeting of the Colchester Myeloma Support Group will be held on Thursday 18 July.

The guest speaker will be Lee Welland who will give a talk called My role as a care & support nurse specialist.

The meeting will take place at Colchester United's Weston Homes Community Stadium between 2pm and 4pm. Plenty of free parking will be available and the venue has excellent access for anyone with a disability.

Colchester Myeloma Support Group, which was formed eight years ago, is an informal group of patients, family members and carers who meet for information and support.

It is affiliated to Myeloma UK, the only organisation in the country dealing exclusively with myeloma and its related disorders. About 20-30 people attend its meetings.

Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a type of cancer arising from plasma cells which are found in the bone marrow.

As the population grows more elderly, the number of cases is rising. About 30 new cases are diagnosed every year in north east Essex.
