Nurse will talk about hormone treatments

24 May 2013

Hormone treatments for prostate cancer will be the subject of a talk at next month's (June) meeting of the North East Essex Urology Cancer Support Group.

The talk will be given by Lucy Powell, a urology cancer nurse specialist, when the group meets on Wednesday 5 June between 6pm and 8pm at Training Rooms South, Colchester General Hospital (near the hospital's main entrance).

Many men with prostate cancer are treated with hormone manipulation treatments, either long term or before radiotherapy.

Mrs Powell, who works for Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, is based at Colchester General Hospital.

Her talk will also cover the side effects of hormone treatments and how they can be managed.

Patients, partners and carers whose lives have been affected by any urological cancer - kidney, prostate, bladder, testicular or penile - can attend the meeting.

The North East Essex Urology Cancer Support Group meets on the first Wednesday of every month, except August and January.

Meetings are informal and attendees have plenty of time to chat with each other. Activities also include social evenings, guest speakers and a chance to meet clinicians.
