Members' Council elections 2011

Today (6 April 2011) we announce the results of our elections to 20 governor posts.

The 15 public governors and five staff governors will join six stakeholder governors on the Members' Council of Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust.

Six constituencies were contested, with a turnout ranging from 18.3 per cent (Suffolk public constituency) to 32.2 per cent (Halstead and Colne Valley public constituency).

The following candidates were successful (full results further down the page):

There were not enough candidates to contest the three remaining constituencies which means that the following people have joined the Members' Council unopposed:

Background

Back in February, the Returning Officer declared the validly nominated candidates and the candidates elected without contest.

During March, we are holding a postal ballot - run by the Association of Electoral Administrators. Voting papers have been posted to qualifying members* in the constituencies that are being contested (where there is more than one candidate), namely:

More details in the table below.

* Qualifying members are defined as everyone who was listed as a member on or before 22 February 2011 (when the nominations for governor closed).

If you have not yet received your ballot papers and you believe you are a qualifying member in one of the above constituencies, please phone 01206 742586 or email FT.Membership@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk

But bear in mind members in four constituencies won't be getting ballot papers as they were uncontested. See green stripes on table below.

What happens next?
Completed ballot papers must be received by the Returning Officer no later than the close of poll at 5pm on Friday 1 April 2011. The results of the election will be published by the Trust on Wednesday 6 April 2011.

Countdown begins to governor elections in 2011

It's been three years since the Trust held its first governor elections. And so the public and staff members of the Trust will have an opportunity early in 2011 to stand for election as governors.

All public members (there were 7,206 on 1 December 2010) and staff members (3,619, which is virtually the entire workforce), are eligible to vote and put themselves forward as candidates.

All 15 public governor posts and five staff governor posts will be available, with voting by postal ballot starting in late March and finishing on 1 April.

Members* have until 22 February to decide whether they wish to stand for election. You can register here to become a member.

Existing governors can stand for a second term of office and successful candidates will serve for three years.

We have prepared a series of "I want to be a Governor" meetings (see menu on left).
