Members of staff from our hospital joined patients who are currently undergoing medical trials, for a research showcase on the main corridor this morning.
Our hospital currently carries out research in the following areas: Neonates, renal, paediatrics, anaesthetics, surgery, haematology, oncology, vascular, stroke, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and maternity.
Rachel White, haematology research nurse, said: "We are trying to raise awareness amongst staff, patients and visitors that trials and research are a big part of what we do here."
Among the guests at the showcase were patients, Sue Lusher and Bill Wendon.
Sue, who is currently undergoing a medical trial, said: "If it means me filling in a few more questionnaires, having a few more blood tests and spending a bit more time in hospital, then so be it.
"I am absolutely committed to medical research and feel privileged to live in this period of time.
"I have benefitted over the last 30 to 40 years through research and if I don't participate, then who is going to help the next generation?
Bill Wendon added: "Research and trials are critical. The work carried out here and the care I receive from staff is brilliant."
