We are based in Colchester General Hospital, Gainsborough Wing (please see map below). The service within the Gainsborough Wing is provided in partnership with our NHS colleagues. The clinical team consists of both upper and lower limb prosthetists and a technician, who are provided by Opcare. The multidisciplinary team includes Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and a vascular nurse. The Prosthetics Department accept referrals from GPs, Consultants and other Health Care Professionals.
The centre runs clinics on a weekly basis. A prosthetist and technician are available two days each week.

Prosthetic Service Classes
We have many classes through the different stages of your Prosthetic Rehabilitation.
On Monday's we have a Hydrotherapy session at 1.00pm, this is open to any amputee dependant on clinical need.
On Wednesdays at 2:00pm we have a class for amputees who are currently wheelchair users. This concentrates on upper arm strength, transfers and maintenance of joint range of movement. An Occupational Therapist can advise with regard to adaptations to your home for wheelchair use or wheelchair problems.
Wheelchair assessments or repairs can be arranged via NEEWCS.
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1.30pm we hold a walking school for prosthetic users, this is to practice walking, steps, slopes and balance work. In this clinic we have a Nintendo Wii for patients to use and we can have an Occupational Therapist attend on request.
Thursdays at 12.30pm we have an advanced class for prosthetics users; this is for strengthening work and preparation for use of community gym equipment. The equipment available includes Exercise Bikes, Treadmills, Stairs, Small Trampoline, Rowing Machine and weights to build upper and lower limb strength.

The Prosthetics Department have a User Group which is run by amputees. They are available for any patient, parent, guardian or carer to speak to for "a listening ear" and all types of personal experience advice.
