Here's what we said after the 2017 Show

Over 21,000 people turned out for the 102nd Tendring Show last Saturday. Themed on Farming for Life, the show held at Lawford House Park on 8th July, included hundreds of trade stalls, food pavilions, an education area and countryside area - a well as our reconfigured 100ft-long NHS marquee!

operating theatre

We had more than 80+ staff and volunteers staffing the 20 stands and their hard work and commitment engaging with people gave the public the opportunity to see how we aim to deliver great healthcare to every patient, every day.

Quite a few of our stands were new for 2017, including a 12ft long, 8ft high Flower Wall promoting our Time Garden, where visitors could get a selfie and make a donation. Many thanks to Oliver's Plants for lending the Flower Wall to us - all three-quarters of a ton of it!

Managing Director Barbara Buckley was there all day and said:

Barbara Buckley

"What a great turn out we had. I loved the operating theatre and the 'inflatable colon'. The League of Friends kept us going all day with drinks and there was wonderful fruit on the 'fresh and fruity' stand. I was overwhelmed with so many great compliments from our patients and families. Thanks to our staff too for their work and effort, I am sure people went home thinking they had had a great day out."

mobile health check van

As usual, people could get checked out at health check corner - thanks to our colleagues at ACE, whose health check stand and mobile health check van did more than 120 health checks. One man approached organisers and said that two years ago he had been checked over at health check corner and subsequently diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure. Although he has been on medication ever since, he was extremely grateful that he had popped into the NHS marquee that day!

Our thanks go to the volunteers for flying the flag for the services they offer. Hospital Radio for keeping us all entertained with music and commentary, the League of Friends for all those tea bags and brewing, the first responders and their emergency ambulance, Community360, the Health Forum, Fresh & Fruity and the NHS Retirement Fellowship. We also grateful to the many governors, board members and other senior staff for their support and commitment meeting and greeting visitors throughout the day.

A particular thanks to Race for Life for lending us their inflatable colon for free - as ever the bowel cancer screening team's stand was a huge bonus to have on display.

Tendring Show 2016

Last year our marquee won "best of breed" for the sixth time in a row!

The NHS won the "Most Informative and Educational Trade-Stand" for, as the judge put it, "its innovative stands and for its interactivity with the public".

Attracting crowds last year of 25,000 people, the Tendring Show on Saturday 8 July is billed as Essex county's premier agricultural event.
